Описание: While most studies of the Holocaust stop in 1945, the year of the liberation and the official end of the Holocaust, Tamas Stark follows the fate of the Hungarian Jews until the Communist takeover in the late 1940s. The author goes on to cover the enlarged, war-years territory of Hungary, and then to a detailed comparison of the destruction of Jewish communities and the emigration of the survivors.

Описание: The study discusses the history of the Jewish refugees within the Shanghai setting and its relationship to the two established Jewish communities, the Sephardi and Russian Jews. Attention is also focused on the cultural life of the refugees who used both German and Yiddish, and on their attempts to cope under Japanese occupation after the outbreak of the Pacific War.
In response to the irregular warfare challenges facing the U.S. in Iraq and Afghanistan in 2005, General James Mattis--then commander of Marine Corps Combat Development Command--established a new Marine Corps cultural initiative. The goal was simple: teach Marines to interact successfully with the local population in areas of conflict. The implications, however, were anything but simple: transform an elite military culture founded on the principles of "locate, close with, and destroy the enemy" into a "culturally savvy" Marine Corps.
Culture in Conflict: Irregular Warfare, Culture Policy, and the Marine Corps examines the conflicted trajectory of the Marine Corps' efforts to institute a radical culture policy into a military organization that is structured and trained to fight conventional wars. More importantly, however, it is a compelling book about America's shifting military identity in a new world of unconventional warfare.

Описание: There is an ever-increasing need for materials that maintain high strength and fracture toughness at elevated temperatures and in complex environments. Advanced aerospace applications are motivating the development of composite materials that can meet demanding requirements. This research effort investigates mechanical behavior of an oxide-oxide continuous fiber ceramic composite (CFCC) consisting of a porous alumina matrix reinforced with mullite/alumina Nextel 720 fibers developed specifically for advanced aerospace applications. Tension-tension fatigue behavior of this CFCC was studied at 1200 and 1330 C in laboratory air and 100% steam environments. Fatigue resistance and retained strength properties were determined. Effects of environmental degradation was addressed in detail.
