Описание:

Out of 8 million stories, the saddest are the silenced and forgotten.

In the city that never sleeps

There are a million and one

stories to tell.

Set in New York City in the mid-late 1990s and early 2000s, A Million And One Stories To Tell paints a dark poetic picture of the human soul with New York Citys urban environment as the backdrop. This book is meant to be read from cover to cover. Using individual poems that connect through episodic and non-linear storytelling, A Million And One Stories To Tell tackles the issues of society and plunges the reader into the underbelly of city life.

The reader is introduced to characters who are dealing with multilayered stressors stemming from the community that they live in and explores the dichotomous relationship of individuals of different socioeconomic statuses. Faced with mental and spiritual struggles, characters are shaped, and the reader is taken on an emotional journey with them.

Some characters carry through from poem to poem in a given chapter such as Mr. Willy, the lynchpin character reflecting the heart of the city, who along with the poet serve a narrative purpose. New York City itself becomes alive, reflecting the soul and becoming the voice for those who do not have a voice. Ultimately, that voice is the very thing that challenges the darkness.

Описание:

The Inspiring Biography of a Minnesota Football Star

From a young age, Stefon Diggs showed promise as a gifted athlete. He was fast enough to win medals as a track & field sprinter, and he was an elite high school football player. By the end of his high school career, his accolades included runner-up as Maryland's Player of the Year and an invitation to participate in a nationally televised all-star game. He was considered one of the best wide receivers in the country, and he had his pick of college football teams. Dedicated to his family, Stefon chose to remain close to home. While his college career got off to a promising start, it was soon derailed by injury. Stefon wasn't about to give up. This is a story of skill and determination. It is proof that anything is possible with hard work and a winning attitude. Award-winning author Ryan Jacobson chronicles Stefon's rise from injury to mid-round draft pick to one of the best wide receivers in professional sports--and, of course, the Minneapolis Miracle. Complete with full-color photographs, this is a true story of inspiration. Stefon Diggs is a must-read for every sports fan in Minnesota and beyond.

Описание: In the summer of 1979, Diane Meyer Lowman, a nineteen-year-old Middlebury College student, embarked on a ten-week working trip aboard a German container ship with a mostly male crew. The journey would take her from New York to Australia and New Zealand and back, through the lush Panama Canal, to a Koala sanctuary and a Maori Museum.
She swabbed decks and mended linens, navigated not only the Panama Canal, but perhaps more harrowingly the awkward and sometimes threatening mostly male shipboard society and its politics. The voyage would forever change her perspective on the world and her place in it. She left the port of New York a subservient, malleable girl and sailed back past the Statue of Liberty on her return as a more confident, independent, resilient young woman who'd learned to stand on her own two feet even if the roughest of waters.
