In Florida Cakes we continued the habit of taking pictures of some of the cakes we purchased. Our life took us to the sunny beaches of Florida for a while. The cake designs in Florida are just incredible.

Now back in Europe we had business in Spain and especially in Catalonia, which we enjoyed during a number of months.

Again, we took advantage of its uniquely enjoyable cake shops - bombonierie - making the most wonderful cakes - pastis in Catalan - some which are not found elsewhere.

There must be at least one thousand cake shops and cafes in Barcelona alone serving these great specialities.

We will try to discover some of the secrets behind this formidable variety and quality of Catalan pastis - Catalan cakes. You will be surprised

He sold many paintings that showed his family, especially his daughter Mar a was a favorite with the public, and Sorolla jokingly called Mar a the breadwinner of the family. He wanted us to share his view of the ideal family as he shared his view of a great and united Spain. Sorolla painted dogs and a cat as pets, as part of the family, superbly catching their soul and character.

Depending on the year and the season the kittens would play either indoors, outdoors or in the covered kitten playground up at the Kansas plot.

To be able to study you needed to have suitable toys available for the kittens. We started out with simple toys like a ball, but later developed into whole ready-made playgrounds, "cat-towers."As the kittens grew older the games became quite hectic and destructive. The sheer number of kittens contributed to the destruction.

A very unusual game was the Game of the Green Jar.

The Green Jar was a gift from a friend, a jar that she eventually had in surplus.

It was great for big flowers, branches with cherry blossoms or apple blossoms, and other gifts from the garden.

We mostly enjoyed the garden in situ.

The Green Jar therefore doubled as playground equipment for indoor activity.

Joaquin Sorolla also painted landscapes. Some of the landscapes are recordings like photographs. Others are exercises and development of his talent and technique. Nativity is a Catholic tradition, separated in many countries from official society as Christianity no longer has the same function, although European values are deeply steeped in Christianity.

In Northern European countries the birth of Jesus is no longer the central theme of the Christmas displays.

We show you also some alternative displays, usually with animals, that are used instead to make the children, and adults, happy. Mostly they are in shopping windows and displace for a while the display of some of the commercial goods that is the daily function of the windows.

Utagawa Hiroshige's two Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series, 1852 and 1858, are both a copy act and in themselves innovative artistic endeavors.

Katsushika Hokusai published his famous series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji in 1830-1832 and it influenced Hiroshige tremendously to do his own series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji series 1852, and 1858 which we deal with here.

Hiroshige shifted to the vertical portrait format with novel and interesting results. It is in the same vertical format for landscapes that Hiroshige used in his innovative series Hundred Famous Views of Edo created with Eisen in 1835 - 1842

It is possible to travel to see the same sites today and enjoy the views of Mt Fuji, which are still very important to the Japanese.

What was Japan like in 1853, when this portrait was started by Utagawa Hiroshige with one print from each of the 69 provinces. It is an outstanding picture book from just before photography.

Hiroshige travelled the Tōkaidō road to participate in an important procession in Kyoto in 1832 and published his 53 Stations of the Tōkaidō which was the most popular print series ever made in Japan, see the author's ISBN 9782919787647.

It was even more popular than Hokusai's series Thirty-six Views of Mount Fuji, which had been recently published and which had influenced Hiroshige tremendously (ISBN 9782919787159 as hard cover).

The Famous Views from the Sixty-Odd Provinces contains some of Hiroshige's most beloved prints and he again uses the horizontal format he pioneered for landscape prints.
