In 1953, their lives found new direction as they surrendered their lives to God. In 1957, he was ordained into the ministry. He founded and pastored two churches in Maryland. He served on the district board of the East Central District of the United Pentecostal Church International (UPCI) for eight years as a presbyter and one year as the secretary/treasurer. The East Central District consisted of Washington, D.C. and the states of Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. In 1974, Maryland and Washington, D.C. became a new district. Dr. Ralph McIntyre was elected as the pioneering District Superintendent of the Maryland-D.C. District and served in this position for fourteen years.
