Описание: "Whom do our people read? Vynnychenko. Whom do people talk about if it concerns literature? Vynnychenko. Whom do they buy? Again, Vynnychenko." So wrote Mykhailo Kotsiubynsky about the young Volodymyr Vynnychenko. An innovative and provocative writer, Vynnychenko was also a charismatic revolutionary and politician who responded to the dramatic upheavals of the first half of the twentieth century by challenging old values and bringing forward new ideas about human relationships. Despite his inseparable association with Ukraine, what is often overlooked is the fact that Vynnychenko wrote the majority of his works outside his native land following his flight from Tsarist and Soviet tyranny. In this ground-breaking study, Mykola Soroka draws on contemporary theories of displacement to show how Vynnychenko`s expatriate status determined his worldview, his choice of literary devices, and his attitudes toward his homeland and hostlands. Soroka considers concepts of identity to study the intertwined experiences of the writer - as an exile, emigre, expatriate, traveler, and nomad - and to demonstrate how these experiences invigorated his art and left a lasting impact on his work. The first book-length study in English on Volodymyr Vynnychenko, Faces of Displacement is an insightful examination of an exiled writer that sheds new light on the challenges faced by the displaced.
Автор: Volodymyr Svidzinsky Название: Evasive Shadow of Life: Selected Poems ISBN: 1894865464 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781894865463 Издательство: Gazelle Book Services Рейтинг: Цена: 38590.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: Volodymyr Svidzinsky (1885-1941) was one of the most prominent Ukrainian poets of his time and a virtuoso of lyrical poetic miniatures. His poetic oeuvre was only recently published in its entirety and this has led to the unexpected--even sensational--discovery of a masterful lyrical voice in Ukrainian poetry. Svidzinskys poetry represents a unique synthesis of classical poetic tradition, Ukrainian modernism, folkloric elements, and mythopoetic way of thinking. His poetry was banned in the USSR for decades and the poet himself was brutally murdered by the Soviet secret police. Now, Svidzinskys legacy has finally assumed its rightful place in the Ukrainian literary canon. For the English reader, this bilingual edition of Svidzinskys selected poems represents the first opportunity to get acquainted with a broader selection of his poetic works.

Описание: The Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies' hallmark event for its fortieth anniversary in 2016 was a two-day conference held at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, bringing together scholars and community members from across Canada, the United States, and Europe, as well as hundreds of online viewers. Edited by Dr. Volodymyr Kravchenko, Ukrainian Studies in Canada is a direct product of the transcripts, submitted papers, discussions, questions, and opinions that came out of this milestone Ukrainian studies event. This book documents the five round-table sessions of the conference, discussing the past, present, and future of Ukrainian studies in North America. Описание: Written by 13 contributors from different regions of the World, this book is a collection of papers written by researchers who have been working toward defining new concepts in the sciences for years. Among the new approaches, new views have been developed based on the emerging mathematical principles, the observation of possible relationships between physical processes, and ideas inspired by firsthand experience penetrating elusive realms. In the frame of the new explanatory theoretic models, matter and energy may be different characteristics of a physical system and equivalence between matter and energy becomes not so obvious. Quantum Mechanics was developed based on the assumption that electron mass is constant. Variable electron mass automatically rules out the entirety of quantum mechanics. Electron mass can change during chemical and biological processes and then other characteristics modify correspondingly. It is accepted that the Special Theory of Relativity (STR) does not contradict quantum mechanics, but in reality, the opposite is true. Even for a non-rocket scientist, this contradiction becomes evident with the simplest analysis of energy mass and energy equivalence formula. In simple words, the formula assumes that if energy is quantized, mass must be quantized too. How do atomic particles know how much mass to convert into energy and keep the same proportion in the conversion? Maybe one proton or one neutron converts more mass than his neighbor does! If protons and neutrons can be fragmented and divided using the MeV energy order, then why do we need CERN or other large nuclear facilities? Contributors of this volume: George Shpenkov.
