Between 1880 and 1920, more than five million Sicilians and Calabrians left their homeland, and came predominately to the USA, Canada and Australia. The resilience they inherited from their native lands enabled them to prosper and thrive in the New World.

Chris Bevenios new book Resilience traces the origins of how these Southern Italians developed this characteristic.

The book begins its story 3000 years ago, explaining how Sicilians and Calabrians evolved into todays southern Italians; and how they gained a multi-cultural strength unique to the worlds population. Over a period of 18 months, the author conducted research and interviewed more than 100 contemporary Calabrians gathering their real-life stories.
