The disease usually attacks the bearded portion of the face, although other hairy parts are sometimes affected. It differs from eczema in causing a loosening of the hair, and in not ex tending from the bearded portion of the face upon adjacent regions which are not hairy. It is always non-parasitic; and the disease which is sometimes called sycosis parasitica is an entirely distinct disease, pig, trichophytosis, or ringworm of the beard.
