Mayer recounts his own personal experiences with the work and details Nozkowski's approach to pictorial abstraction, one that involved the nuances of feeling rather than confident identification to achieve his oeuvre, or what the writer calls "a record of creative thought." The catalog also includes a eulogy for Nozkowski written by Peter Schjeldahl, which was delivered at a memorial for the artist at MoMA in February 2020.
