Описание: Chinese labor during the California Gold Rush. Japanese internment. Geopolitical segregation. Racial stereotypes. Asian/American Curricular Epistemicide: From Being Excluded to Becoming a Model Minority delves into how these events and issues are portrayed—or, in some cases, ignored—in today’s K—12 social studies curricula. The authors’scholarly and personal backgrounds and experiences have specially situated them to undertake this objective yet critical analysis, as they examine the constructed historical narratives of Chinese and Japanese immigration, multiculturalism, and the overall hegemonic narrative as it has been shaped by the politicization of social studies curricula. This content analysis is intended to initiate a broader conversation about the methods behind a curriculum’s formation. How is historical information selected, then molded into a particular narrative for public consumption? Through the authors’ insightful exploration, educators and citizens alike may better identify how influential entities and agendas shape curricula behind the scenes. The authors hope that the light they bring to bear on this topic will equip readers to conduct their own analysis and to be more aware and constructively critical of our K—12 educational system.

Описание:

This volume explores two radical shifts in history and subsequent responses in curricular spaces: the move from oral to print culture during the transition between the 15th and 16th centuries and the rise of the Jesuits, and the move from print to digital culture during the transition between the 20th and 21st centuries and the rise of what the philosopher Jean Baudrillard called "hyperreality."

The curricular innovation that accompanied the first shift is considered through the rise of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). These men created the first "global network" of education, and developed a humanistic curriculum designed to help students navigate a complicated era of the known (human-centered) and unknown (God-centered) universe.

The curricular innovation that is proposed for the current shift is guided by the question: What should be the role of undergraduate education become in the 21st century? Today, the tension between the known and unknown universe is concentrated on the interrelationships between our embodied spaces and our digitally mediated ones. As a result, today's undergraduate students should be challenged to understand how--in the objectively focused, commodified, STEM-centric landscape of higher education--the human subject is decentered by the forces of hyperreality, and in turn, how the human subject might be recentered to balance our humanness with the new realities of digital living.

Therein, one finds the possibility of posthumanistic education.

Описание: At the Intersection of Selves and Subject: Exploring the Curricular Landscape of Identity aims to raise awareness of the inextricability of our teaching and learning selves and the subjects with whom and which we engage. By exploring identity at this intersection, we invite scholars and practitioners to reconceptualize relationships with students, curriculum, and their varied contexts. Our hope is to encourage authenticity, consciousness, and criticality that will foster more liberating ways of teaching and learning. This collection will be useful for pre- and in-service teachers, teacher educators, and educational researchers. It is a valuable resource for teacher education courses such as Curriculum Studies, Reflexive Practice, Philosophy of Education, Sociology of Education, Teaching Methods, Current Issues in Education, Collaborative Inquiry, and Narrative Inquiry.

Описание:

The book explores possibilities for happening in education. It outlines characteristics for happening which are viewed in relation to educational discourses to determine how learners and teachers might be involved. In connection with this, the author considers critical pedagogy, teaching as a liminal practice, creative pedagogy and multiple intelligences. The book also provides details of a participatory research strategy, based upon bricolage and the rhizome, implemented for an inquiry into happening and EFL teaching in a Polish school. The author suggests there may be resistance to the use of happening in schools due to the dominance of transmission-based teaching and unfavourable attitudes towards creativity.
