Fifty inspiring photos enhance each original saying in a full-color book that makes a perfect gift.
The power and grace of horses sets them apart from other animals. The fluid movements of a mare, a stallion, and even the humble pony under saddle carry us into new worlds, ones that can only be viewed from horseback. When the author was fifteen, she learned dressage and jumping. The experience developed a part of her soul and nourishes her to this day.
Thoroughbred breeds competing in horse sports, foals, wild horses, draft horses, horse racing, palominos, colts and saddle horses are stablemates for our lives. The everyday interactions between horse and rider are found with the Shetland pony, yearlings, feral horses, shire horses, miniature horses, appaloosas, Arabians, bangtails, and more.
Working with horses is spiritual. The rider must be calm and collected while respecting their partner. When that happens, horse and rider transcend. Zen in the Stable honors that relationship.
A gorgeous collection for every equestrian, horse enthusiast, animal lover, and anyone seeking a moment of peace, Zen in the Stable demonstrates that the human-horse connection can enrich our lives and make us happier, healthier, calmer, and more loving.
The softcover edition uses a single-page layout for an affordable price point. The hardcover edition displays each saying across a beautiful two-page spread with the full-color photo on the righthand page, making it the perfect gift.

For thousands of years we have travelled on horseback but until now no one has shown us the way.
The Encyclopaedia of Equestrian Exploration is the most extensive study of equestrian travel ever created.
The three-volume series offers every conceivable type of advice about equestrian travel such as how to plan a route, how to choose a travelling companion, how to find a road horse, how to load a pack saddle, how many miles to travel per day, how to feed and shoe your horse, how to cross rivers, how to negotiate borders, how to survive in traffic, how to deter horse thieves, etc.
Enriched by nearly a thousand images, the books contain the wisdom of more than 400 Long Riders. The Bibliography includes knowledge gained from more than 200 titles dating back hundreds of years.
Volume II consists of The Challenges. This volume contains the most comprehensive investigation of equestrian travel problems ever compiled. Geographic difficulties include mountains, deserts, rivers, jungles and quicksand. Riding in extreme heat and polar cold are examined. Solutions are provided for manmade perils such as bridge crossings and tunnels. Information is provided on how to safely transport horses by ship, plane, truck and trailer. Modern ordeals such as hostile bureaucrats and aggressive motorists are scrutinized. The decision to carry firearms is carefully considered. Problems involving cultural traditions and the hiring of guides are resolved. Traditional concerns, including dangerous animals, poisonous insects and equine medical emergencies are fully documented. Special chapters contain extensive examinations regarding sore backs, colic and how to deal with equine mortality while travelling.
Created after decades of study by CuChullaine O'Reilly, the Founder of the Long Riders' Guild, the Encyclopaedia of Equestrian Exploration is filled with the indispensable knowledge needed to resolve problems, overcome hardships and avoid dangers while travelling. The three volumes are not about one country or culture. They represent the collective wisdom of humanity's travel on horseback. They are books of marvels that include precious stories, valuable ideas, forgotten history and endangered practical knowledge.

Former generations of horse travellers took the basis of their equestrian knowledge for granted. For centuries they passed on wisdom in an oral tradition, never foreseeing the day when horses would be replaced as the primary mode of transportation.
The result was the loss of humanity's collective equestrian travel wisdom. A treasure trove representing more than 6,000 years of cumulative human-horse travel experience was lost in less than 100 years due to global apathy. Thus as the 20th century came to a conclusion mankind knew more about the surface of the moon than it did about the once vital topic of horse travel.

This volume consists of The Preparation, The Horses and The Equipment. It counsels travellers on how to overcome hostility aimed by critics, plan a route and choose a companion. Finances and insurance are examined. Extensive chapters teach travellers how to locate, inspect and purchase suitable horses. The role of the pack horse is documented. A special study of Long Rider horsemanship provides surprising historical revelations. Feeding, watering, grooming and shoeing are carefully explained. Other chapters examine riding saddles, pack saddles, personal equipment and the use of support vehicles.
Created after decades of study by CuChullaine O'Reilly, the Founder of the Long Riders' Guild, this comprehensive series of books is filled with the indispensable knowledge needed to resolve problems, overcome hardships and avoid dangers while travelling. Just as importantly, it empowers readers to turn their dream into a life-changing equestrian journey.

Volume III consists of The Journey, The Aftermath and The Epilogue. Practical matters such as Life on the Road are explained and emotional conflicts such as Saying Goodbye to Your Horse are addressed. The Epilogue investigates issues that confront us all as human beings.
It is also a guidebook to the inner way. The wise Long Rider knows he is setting off on two journeys, the external and the interior, that he will be required to travel along the parallel streams which run through every equestrian journey, the practical and the philosophical. Both require careful study. The Encyclopaedia of Equestrian Exploration doesn't just tell you how. It reveals why.
Created after decades of study by CuChullaine O'Reilly, the Founder of the Long Riders' Guild, the Encyclopaedia of Equestrian Exploration is filled with the indispensable knowledge needed to resolve problems, overcome hardships and avoid dangers while travelling. Yet the books never read like a dictionary of dry facts. They are highly readable volumes filled with entertaining and inspiring stories, quotes and anecdotes. Just as importantly, they empower readers to turn their dream into a life-changing equestrian journey.
Consisting of every scrap of wisdom found in ancient tomes, the lessons learned from countless miles and the practical knowledge garnered from generations of horse-humans, these books represent mankind's collective equestrian travel heritage. Their message transcends nationality and time.

Автор: Linden Ari Название: Karl Kraus and the Discourse of Modernity ISBN: 0810141620 ISBN-13(EAN): 9780810141629 Издательство: Mare Nostrum (Eurospan) Рейтинг: Цена: 33400.00 T Наличие на складе: Нет в наличии. Описание: Ari Linden's Karl Kraus and the Discourse of Modernity reconsiders the literary works of the Viennese satirist, journalist, and playwright Karl Kraus (1874-1936). Linden reads Kraus's work both on its own terms and alongside philosophy and critical theory, yielding a portrait of Kraus as an irrepressible figure in the modernist tradition. In doing so, Linden draws a more robust image of German modernism itself. Combining close readings with intellectual history, Linden shows how Kraus's two major literary achievements ( The Last Days of Mankind and The Third Walpurgis Night ) and a lesser-known play ( Cloudcuckooland ) address the political catastrophes of the first third of Europe's twentieth century-from World War I to the rise of fascism. Kraus's central insight, Linden argues, is that the medial representations of such events have produced less an informed audience than one increasingly unmoved by mass violence. In the second part of the book, Linden explores this insight as he sees it inflected in SØren Kierkegaard, Walter Benjamin, and Theodor Adorno. This hidden dialogue, Linden argues, offers us a richer understanding of the often neglected relationship between satire and critical theory writ large.

Описание: Winner of the 2015 ASAL Walter McCrae Russell AwardIndigenous Australian cultures were long known to the world mainly from the writing of anthropologists, ethnographers, historians, missionaries, and others. Indigenous Australians themselves have worked across a range of genres to challenge and reconfigure this textual legacy, so that they are now strongly represented through their own life-narratives of identity, history, politics, and culture. Even as Indigenous-authored texts have opened up new horizons of engagement with Aboriginal knowledge and representation, however, the textual politics of some of these narratives – particularly when cross-culturally produced or edited – can remain haunted by colonially grounded assumptions about orality and literacy.Through an examination of key moments in the theorizing of orality and literacy and key texts in cross-culturally produced Indigenous life-writing, Entangled Subjects explores how some of these works can sustain, rather than trouble, the frontier zone established by modernity in relation to ‘talk’ and ‘text’. Yet contemporary Indigenous vernaculars offer radical new approaches to how we might move beyond the orality–literacy ‘frontier’, and how modernity and the a-modern are productively entangled in the process.

Symptoms of an Unruly Age compares the writings of Li Zhi (1527–1602) and his late-Ming compatriots to texts composed by their European contemporaries, including Montaigne, Shakespeare, and Cervantes. Emphasizing aesthetic patterns that transcend national boundaries, Rivi Handler-Spitz explores these works as culturally distinct responses to similar social and economic tensions affecting early modern cultures on both ends of Eurasia.
The paradoxes, ironies, and self-contradictions that pervade these works are symptomatic of the hypocrisy, social posturing, and counterfeiting that afflicted both Chinese and European societies at the turn of the seventeenth century. Symptoms of an Unruly Age shows us that these texts, produced thousands of miles away from one another, each constitute cultural manifestations of early modernity.
