Since the 1970s, understanding of the effects of trauma, including flashbacks and withdrawal, has become widespread in the United States. As a result Americans can now claim that the phrase posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is familiar even if the American Psychiatric Association's criteria for diagnosis are not. As embedded as these ideas now are in the American mindset, however, they are more widely applicable, this volume attempts to show, than is generally recognized. The essays in Culture and PTSD trace how trauma and its effects vary across historical and cultural contexts. Culture and PTSD examines the applicability of PTSD to other cultural contexts and details local responses to trauma and the extent they vary from PTSD as defined in the American Psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical Manual. Investigating responses in Peru, Indonesia, Haiti, and Native American communities as well as among combat veterans, domestic abuse victims, and adolescents, contributors attempt to address whether PTSD symptoms are present and, if so, whether they are a salient part of local responses to trauma. Moreover, the authors explore other important aspects of the local presentation and experience of trauma-related disorder, whether the Western concept of PTSD is known to lay members of society, and how the introduction of PTSD shapes local understandings and the course of trauma-related disorders. By attempting to determine whether treatments developed for those suffering PTSD in American and European contexts are effective in global settings of violence or disaster, Culture and PTSD questions the efficacy of international responses that focus on trauma. Author and yoga practitioner Ann Fitzmaurice took inspiration from the creator of the Mother Sequence, Jehangir Palkhivala, when he told her, "The Mother Sequence is intended to heal, strengthen, and spread peace -- in the practitioner and his or her surroundings."
With his blessing and the encouragement of many in the yoga community, this collection of essays and beautiful illustrations has come to fruition. The 21-Day Yoga Challenge: Inspiration for a Lifetime of Good Health is timeless in application and encourages individuals not only to devote time to themselves and their yoga practice, but to spread their well-being further.

The problems of U.S. health care are of intense public interest today. The debate over where to go next to rein in costs and improve access to quality health care has become bitterly partisan, with distorted rhetoric largely uninformed by history, evidence, or health policy science. Based on present trends, our expensive dysfunctional system threatens patients, families, the government, and taxpayers with future bankruptcy.
This book takes a 60-year view of our health care system, from 1956 to 2016, from the perspective of a family physician who has lived through these years as a practitioner in two rural communities, a professor and administrator of family medicine in medical schools, a journal editor for 30 years, and a researcher and writer on health care for more than four decades.
There has been a complete transformation of health care and medical practice over that time from physicians in solo or small group practice and community hospitals to an enormous, largely corporatized industry that has left behind many of the traditions of personalized health care. This is an objective, non-partisan look at the major trends changing U.S. health care over these years, and points out some of the highs--and lows--of these changes, which may surprise some readers. It also compares the three basic alternatives for health care reform currently being debated.

-The Eight Principles of Good Health
A concise distillation of practical health principles based on the ancient healing system of Tibetan Medical Science, The Eight Principles of Good Health offers a truly holistic perspective on health care.
The Eight Principles revealed in this book are the following:
Portion Size
Water Intake
Avoiding Fake Food
Balancing Nutrition
Avoiding Food Bans
Reducing Toxic Load
Maintaining a Non-Sedentary Lifestyle
Choosing a Positive Perspective
These Eight Principles are mainly centered around nutritional and lifestyle practices, and not Tibetan Medicine herbs, as healthy diet and lifestyle are the most important and effective aspects of therapeutic healing. The Eight Principles of Good Health explains just why this is, as it brings the wisdom of a traditional medical system into the modern world, by way of a transformational holistic health book.
There is growing awareness that some people do not appear to recover their former health using the standard levothyroxine (T4) thyroid medication and may remain with many of the symptoms of hypothyroidism that they first went to their doctor with.
The author describes his struggle with hypothyroidism and how eventually he regained his health using a thyroid medication called liothyronine sodium (T3). The use of T3 finally enabled the author to make a complete recovery from hypothyroidism, although there were many lessons that he needed to learn about T3 in order to regain his health.
The author decided to write Recovering with T3, as there were no useful books on hypothyroidism that covered the detailed information needed for using T3 safely and effectively.
This book covers a vast amount of technical and practical information relating to T3 medication and details how the author used T3 in order to get well.
The book has a foreword by Dr. John C. Lowe, who had this to say about the book:
"Paul Robinson has written a book chock-full of information on T3 that is vitally important to many people. I believe that reading 'Recovering with T3 My Journey from Hypothyroidism to Good Health Using the T3 Thyroid Hormone' will be a splendid experience for thousands of people, whether clinicians, patients, patient advocates, or patients' loved ones."
Recovering with T3 is a ground-breaking hypothyroidism book and essential reading for any patient and their doctor if they are considering the use of the T3 thyroid hormone.
The book was updated in 2018 to incorporate recent thyroid research study findings.
Together with 'The Thyroid Patient's Manual', and 'The CT3M Handbook', Paul's hypothyroidism books have now become a complete series (the 'Recovering from Hypothyroidism series').
