This volume offers a unique and fresh perspective on Italian Futurism by approaching it, for the first time, through the lens of microstoria. In this 'history from below' of what is one of Europe's most famous and important avant-garde movements, large-scale questions on the history of Futurism are explored by focusing on objects, practices and situations as diverse as The Church, Puppets, The Letterhead or Gymnastics. With contributions from fifteen renowned international scholars, the book offers an exciting, kaleidoscopic view of Futurism and its multiple artistic, political and societal connections. The final chapter of the book is an interview with G nter Berghaus, one of Futurism's most dedicated and prolific scholars today, to whom the book is dedicated.
Sascha Bru is Professor of General and Comparative Literature at the University of Leuven; Luca Somigli is Professor of Italian at the University of Toronto; Bart Van den Bossche is professor of Italian Literature at the University of Leuven.

Finalist, 2019 Locus Award for Nonfiction, presented by the Locus Science Fiction Foundation
Traverses the history of imagined futures from the 1890s to the 2010s, interweaving speculative visions of gender, race, and sexuality from literature, film, and digital media Old Futures explores the social, political, and cultural forces feminists, queer people, and people of color invoke when they dream up alternative futures as a way to imagine transforming the present. Lothian shows how queer possibilities emerge when we practice the art of speculation: of imagining things otherwise than they are and creating stories from that impulse. Queer theory offers creative ways to think about time, breaking with straight and narrow paths toward the future laid out for the reproductive family, the law-abiding citizen, and the believer in markets. Yet so far it has rarely considered the possibility that, instead of a queer present reshaping the ways we relate to past and future, the futures imagined in the past can lead us to queer the present. Narratives of possible futures provide frameworks through which we understand our present, but the discourse of “the” future has never been a singular one. Imagined futures have often been central to the creation and maintenance of imperial domination and technological modernity; Old Futures offers a counterhistory of works that have sought—with varying degrees of success—to speculate otherwise. Examining speculative texts from the 1890s to the 2010s, from Samuel R. Delany to Sense8, Lothian considers the ways in which early feminist utopias and dystopias, Afrofuturist fiction, and queer science fiction media have insisted that the future can and must deviate from dominant narratives of global annihilation or highly restrictive hopes for redemption. Each chapter chronicles some of the means by which the production and destruction of futures both real and imagined takes place: through eugenics, utopia, empire, fascism, dystopia, race, capitalism, femininity, masculinity, and many kinds of queerness, reproduction, and sex. Gathering stories of and by populations who have been marked as futureless or left out by dominant imaginaries, Lothian offers new insights into what we can learn from efforts to imaginatively redistribute the future.

Описание: Having emerged as one the leading contemporary British writers, David Mitchell is rapidly taking his place amongst British novelists with the gravitas of an Ishiguro or a McEwan. Written for a wide constituency of readers of contemporary literature, A Temporary Future: The Fiction of David Mitchell explores Mitchell’s main concerns—including those of identity, history, language, imperialism, childhood, the environment, and ethnicity—across the six novels published so far, as well as his protean ability to write in multiple and diverse genres. It places Mitchell in the tradition of Murakami, Sebald, and Rushdie—writers whose works explore narrative in an age of globalization and cosmopolitanism. Patrick O’Donnell traces the through-lines of Mitchell’s work from ghostwritten to The Bone Clocks and, with a chapter on each of the six novels, charts the evolution of Mitchell’s fictional project.
Having lived with his grandparents and uncles will delve his inborn wisdom and the sense of humanity's protection in priority. In this title "About Black Women, My Grandmother Told Me," the author unrolls his literary style as deep, derider and sober. Narcisse Nguema observed the man's and the woman's misbehaviors and started to heed his grandmother's anecdotal concerns and alerts: The Black societies need to better target their requirements for a strong society. Black people need to reframe their struggle and recover their authenticity and better build wealth and defend their lives at first. The refusal of corruption of minds from white and yellow people along with the appetite for the easiness, regarding women and young people, is the second frame of this project.
After having committed "Proven Mother's Heart" in French, written as He was 22 years-old, Narcisse Nguema found lots to say about women. But He couldn't add independent and free thoughts in that first complete novel written in a scenography, and still unshared to the public. He figures out that black folks are in serious harmful danger of all aspects. To fix that state of things, the black woman's standards of education and behavior must be reset to re-empower the black communities, wherever they are--according to the ancestry insight and to the natural growth of the society, they live at.

Описание: The Once and Future Muse presents the first major study of the life and work of Dominican-born bilingual American poet and translator Rhina P. Espaillat (b. 1932). Beginning with her literary celebrity as the youngest poet ever inducted into the Poetry Society of America, it traces her relative obscurity after 1952 when she married and took on family and employment responsibilities, to her triumphant return to the poetry spotlight decades later when she reclaimed her former prestige with a series of award-winning poetry collections. The authors define Espaillat's place in American letters with attention to her formalist aesthetics, Hispanic Caribbean immigrant background, poetic community-building, bilingual ethos, and domestically-minded woman-of-color feminism. Addressing the temporality of her oeuvre—her publishing before and after the splitting of American literature into distinct ethnic segments—this work also highlights the demands that the social transformations of the 1960s placed on literary artists, critics, and readers alike.

Celebrating the twentieth anniversary of the groundbreaking Testimony, thiscollection brings together the leading academics from a range of scholarly fields to explore the meaning, use, and value of testimony in law and politics, its relationship to other forms of writing like literature and poetry, and its place in society. It visits testimony in relation to a range of critical developments, including the rise of Truth Commissions and the explosion and radical extension of human rights discourse; renewed cultural interest in perpetrators of violence alongside the phenomenal commercial success of victim testimony (in the form of misery memoirs); and the emergence of disciplinary interest in genocide, terror, and other violent atrocities. These issues are necessarily inflected by the question of witnessing violence, pain, and suffering at both the local and global level, across cultures, and in postcolonial contexts. At the volume's core is an interdisciplinary concern over the current and future nature of witnessing as it plays out through a 'new' Europe, post-9/11 US, war-torn Africa, and in countless refugee and detention centers, and as it is worked out by lawyers, journalists, medics, and novelists. The collection draws together an international range of case-studies, including discussion of the former Yugoslavia, Gaza, and Rwanda, and encompasses a cross-disciplinary set of texts, novels, plays, testimonial writing, and hybrid testimonies. The volume situates itself at the cutting-edge of debate and as such brings together the leading thinkers in the field, requiring that each address the future, anticipating and setting the future terms of debate on the importance of testimony.
