Documentary film festivals do more than provide a venue for watching films: they have the potential to foster critical thinking, especially toward mainstream media. The film festivals discussed in this book also help build a sense of community locally, as well as promote solidarity with people involved in struggles for social justice and ecological integrity around the world. Documentaries by independent filmmakers reveal stories ignored by mass media, stories at times tragic but more often than not inspiring. It can be said that documentary film festivals create a public space for citizens to listen together and to become informed on current issues in greater depth than newscast bulletins offer. This book shows how documentary films create a liminal space with transformative potential, a space that challenges assumptions, supports the development of empathy, and often stimulates engagement and action. In viewing documentaries together and engaging in critical reflection and dialogue, citizens can imagine alternative possibilities and consider solutions. Documentary Film Festivals: Transformative Learning, Community Building & Solidarity offers the voices of attendees, sponsors, and organizers who shared their thoughts and experiences of documentary film festivals and the impact on their views and engagement. Activists and organizers of various social movements who are seeking ways to inform and inspire will see evidence in this text that documentary film festivals are a means of drawing diverse audiences, engaging differences and respectfully promoting hope and preferred visions of the future. Documentary Film Festivals: Transformative Learning, Community Building & Solidarity includes concrete examples of creative and courageous struggles that have led to victories often ignored by the media. This book is bound to inspire.
Автор: Mary-Elizabeth Vaquer Название: Poetics of Curriculum, Poetics of Life: An Exploration of Poetry in the Context of Selves, Schools, and Society ISBN: 9463004637 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789463004633 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 51800.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: Through multiple lenses of curriculum studies, the author explores how poetry is situated in the pedagogical world. Her work aims to illuminate how poetry is studied in schools and how these practices of studying poetry give poetry its cultural identity. Each chapter is guided by insight from John Dewey’s Art as Experience which promotes explorations of opportunities for students to have profound experiences with poetry and art in schools. The purpose of this book is not to offer a prescription for teachers to use in their classrooms. This is not an outline regarding how someone should include poetry in a lesson plan. Rather, the author explores why poetry is important in our lives and how poetry can contribute to opening avenues for new possibilities through imagination and transformation based on phenomenological experience and scholarship. She explores poetry through Dewey’s notion of aesthetics across diverse aspects of meaning making through poetry in a contemporary context. She also explores the influences that poetry has on the curriculum of our lives, and the influence that our lived curriculum has on the future of poetry.

Название: The Creative Enterprise of Mathematics Teaching Research: Elements of Methodology and Practice – From Teachers to Teachers ISBN: 9463005471 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789463005470 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 66410.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: The Creative Enterprise of Mathematics Teaching Research presents the results and methodology of work of the teaching-research community of practice of the Bronx (TR Team of the Bronx). It has a twofold aim of impacting both teachers of Mathematics and researchers in Mathematics Education. This volume can be used by teachers of mathematics who want to use research to reflect upon and to improve their teaching craft, as well as by researchers who are interested in uncovering riches of classroom learning/teaching for research investigations. This book represents the results of a collaboration of instructors discussing their own instruction research, analyzed through a conceptual framework obtained via the synthesis of creativity research and educational learning theories, based upon the work of Piaget and Vygotsky. The editors see an urgent need for creative synthesis of research and teaching, an example of which is presented in the book. Two central themes of the book are the methodology of TR/NYCity model and creativity, more precisely, creativity of the Aha moment formulated by Arthur Koestler (1964) in a very profound but little known theory of bisociation exposed in his work “The Act of Creation”. Incorporation of the theory of bisociation into classroom teaching of mathematics provides the key to enable students who may struggle with mathematics to engage their own creativity, become involved in their learning process and thus reach their full potential of excellence. Creativity in teaching remedial mathematics is teaching gifted students how to access their own giftedness.

Автор: Mindy R. Carter Название: The Teacher Monologues: Exploring the Identities and Experiences of Artist-Teachers ISBN: 9462097380 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789462097384 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 43830.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: This book examines the experiences of four Conservatory style trained actors, who go onto complete teacher education programs. In keeping with a/r/tography this research uses social science methods and creative methods of data collection. Interviews and reflective writing about the participant’s educational and experiential backgrounds are complimented by the writing of monologues. Themes from the data collected during interviews, reflective writing and monologues led to the understandings that: there is a connection between developing consciousness and having a noetic experience; actor-teachers want to talk about their noetic experiences; residue is an a/r/tographic rendering used to describe the way that having an illuminating experience in theatre school affected the participants; and an immanent curriculum can be understood by theatrical engagement. In addition to exploring the interview data and monologues, time is spent understanding the works of Antonin Artaud, a prolific theatre artist and a/r/tography, a method of arts-based research. This theoretical and tographical investigation leads to the creation of Interludes. These Interludes, theorized as rhizomatic curricular offshoots, allow for multiple entry points into these new understandings and provide an example of how to bring together artful inquiry into an academic arena. Awards 2013 American Educational Research Association (AERA) Arts Based Educational Research (ABER) Dissertation Honorable Mention 2013 Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CATE) Canadian Association of Teacher Education (CATE) PhD Dissertation Award of Distinction Cick here to find out more information. Dr. Mindy R. Carter is an Assistant Professor at McGill University in the Department of Integrated Studies in Education. She has taught a range of education courses specializing in arts education and curriculum theory. Her research focuses on a/r/tography, teacher identity, teacher education, arts based educational research and curriculum. Her publications have addressed knowledge mobilization, democracy and arts education, the impact of autobiographical and a/r/tographical dispositions on teacher candidates and the impact of creating art on teacher’s pedagogical development and identity. She is actively involved in local and international arts education organizations. Front cover by Kelci Archibald, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, please click here to find out more information.

Автор: Miroslav Pavle Manovski Название: Arts-Based Research, Autoethnography, and Music Education: Singing through a Culture of Marginalization ISBN: 9462095140 ISBN-13(EAN): 9789462095144 Издательство: Brill Рейтинг: Цена: 119540.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: This book invites readers into Miroslav Pavle Manovski’s journey into quest of how he found his voice—literally and figuratively—by reflecting and storying from his fluid identity and roles as an artist, singer, learner, music teacher, researcher… while empowering others to find their own voice. The book is also an arts-based autoethnographic rendering of the author’s experience being tormented, harassed, and called “gay” as a means to negatively target and marginalize him. Further, this work contributes to the literature of those mercilessly harassed for perceived effeminate characteristics and to the canon of ways we may be able to rescue ourselves—to positively transform—from prior wreckage a part of our lives. The book makes significant contributions to the literature on qualitative inquiry, arts-based research, autoethnography, music education, and vocal pedagogy as a means of re-presenting a rich tapestry of life experience. While this text can be read entirely for pleasure or personal growth, it will make an outstanding springboard for conversation in courses across the disciplines that deal with teacher education, music education, gender and sexual identity/orientation, intimacy, relationships and relational communication, prejudice, bullying and more. This award-wining book will additionally be of great value in courses on autoethnography, life writing, narrative inquiry, arts-based research, and music education.
