Описание: David M. Shafie`s rigorous combination of qualitative content analysis and topical case studies offers scholars and researchers alike important insights for understanding the interactions between environmental groups and the executive branch and its implications for future policy-making in the United States.
The American cultural landscape has shifted considerably since the 1990s. As church attendance has declined, seculars have increased in number and in political involvement. The economy was supposed to be the most important issue in the 2008 and 2012 elections, but social issues such as gay rights and the status of women actually had a greater impact on vote choice. Moral issues and perceptions of candidate morality had less effect on voters in 2004 than in 2008.
These arguments directly challenge the conventional wisdom concerning the 2004 and 2008 elections, which were supposedly decided on the basis of moral values and the economy respectively. Yet in The Politics of Sex, Susan B. Hansen justifies these claims theoretically based on evidence about how voters actually evaluate candidates. Hansen explores trends in public opinion on abortion, gay rights, and the status of women and finds that "values voters" are still crucial in presidential elections, even those supposedly fought over economic or foreign-policy issues. She then analyzes campaign strategies and vote choice to show how Barack Obama made effective use of the liberal trends in public opinion on social issues in 2008 and 2012. Hansen also examines trends in demographics, religious involvement, the institutional setting, and public opinion to predict who in future years benefit from the politics of sex.
By providing an historical perspective on the changing impact of morality politics on presidential elections, this book will show how and why the politics of sex now favors the Democratic Party.

The Special Counsel investigation of 2017 to 2019, also referred to as the Mueller probe, Mueller investigation and Russia investigation, was a United States counterintelligence investigation of the Russian government's efforts to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. According to its authorizing document, which was signed by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein on May 17, 2017, the investigation's scope included allegations that there were links or coordination between Donald Trump's presidential campaign and the Russian government as well as "any matters that arose or may arise directly from the investigation." It included a criminal investigation which looked into potential obstruction of justice charges against Trump and others within the campaign and administration. Conducted by the Department of Justice Special Counsel's Office headed by Robert Mueller, a Republican and former Director of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Special Counsel investigation began eight days after President Trump dismissed FBI director James Comey, who had been leading existing FBI investigations since July 2016 into links between Trump associates and Russian officials. Following Comey's firing, over 130 Democratic Party lawmakers in Congress called for the appointment of a special counsel, while the FBI began investigating Trump for obstruction of justice. The special counsel's office took over both these investigations from the FBI.
The Special Counsel's office concluded its investigation and submitted the final report (also known as "the Mueller report") to Attorney General William Barr on March 22, 2019. Barr had been previously critical of the investigation before Trump announced on December 7, 2018, his intent to nominate Barr for Attorney General. Following the conclusion of the special counsel, at least three dozen ongoing investigations originally handled by the Special Counsel's office were passed on to district and state prosecutors, other Department of Justice branches, other federal agencies, and Congress. On June 16, 2015, a man named Donald Trump announced, "Ladies and Gentlemen, I am officially running for President of the United States, and we are going to make our country great again " Since Trump was a businessman who never held public office, hardly anyone took him seriously. After all, what does a reality TV star know about running a country?
The presidential campaign began, as did the debates. Trump said some outrageous things Most politicians and news reporters laughed because no other candidate talked like him. The media believed he was just a big joke, but across America, people started listening. People started to believe, especially as he visited struggling families and factories about to close.
He went to places where crime and violence made it dangerous for children to walk to school. He went to places where terrorism was trying to take root. He went to the American people and listened--and the crowds grew because Trump, a businessman, understood. This is the story of the U.S. Presidential Election of 2016 and how and why it changed history forever.
