Автор: Bin Zhu Название: Spatial Distribution of Health Manpower in China: Exploring its Characteristics and Determinants ISBN: 1536175722 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781536175721 Издательство: Nova Science Рейтинг: Цена: 149940.00 T Наличие на складе: Невозможна поставка. Описание: The misdistribution of health manpower is one of the major challenges faced by the Chinese health sector hindering peoples access to healthcare. However, this subject remains underexplored, as spatial distribution characteristics have not been fully mapped out, nor have its causes been determined at the macro regional level. To fill this research void, this study aims to conduct sophisticated spatial analyses to examine the characteristics of health manpower distribution and test various determinants of health manpower densities. By introducing spatial techniques, this study sheds light on the distribution of health manpower in China, thus offering invaluable evidence for making national and regional policies to facilitate a more effective distribution of health manpower in China. On the one hand, this study used spatial statistics (space-time scan statistics and Morans I statistics) to reveal, visualize, and compare the temporal trends, spatio-temporal dynamics, and spatial clustering patterns of different subtypes of health manpower (clinicians, doctors of traditional Chinese medicine, dentists, public health doctors, general practitioners, registered nurses, pharmacists, technologists, and interns) and their total. The results reveal that regional disparities and huge urban-rural imbalances exist in Chinas health manpower distribution, indicating that some provincial units have been left behind. In addition, spatial distribution characteristics varied across different subtypes of health manpower, which still held with respect to either the urban or rural health manpower distribution. On the other hand, this study theoretically modeled and empirically measured various determinants of health manpower distribution from both the supply and demand sides while taking the spillover effect between adjacent geographical units into consideration. Based on the results of the estimation, the health service demand was, as expected, found to forcefully drive the health manpower distribution across the nation. In light of this, the increase in health services demands in a province could significantly help one unit attract licensed doctors and registered nurses from adjacent units. Unexpectedly but intriguingly, the power of medical education capacity was relatively limited in increasing the health manpower density in local units compared to its spillover effect on neighboring units. In addition, government and social health expenditure played different roles in the health labor market, the former being more effective in increasing the stock of licensed doctors and registered nurses, the latter doing better in attracting dentists and general practitioners. This study has the potential to make profound contributions to the theory and practice of health manpower distribution in China. First, this study advances our understanding of characteristics of health manpower distribution by introducing spatial statistics. By doing so, this study visualizes the detailed spatial distribution characteristics with maps and identifies the priority areas for health manpower allocation in China. Second, this study provides a comprehensive research framework to understand the potential drivers of health manpower distribution, and more importantly, takes spillover effects into consideration and measures them for the first time. Third, this study systematically explores and compares the distribution characteristics and determinants of different subtypes of health manpower, which differ greatly. By exploring both the characteristics and determinants, this study gives a full picture of the health manpower distribution and provides new evidence for making health manpower allocation policies in China.
According to recent statistics, 80.7 percent of Americans live in urban areas, and more than half of the world's population lives in cities. From various types of pollution to crime to overcrowding, the urban environment can have massive impacts on our physical, psychological, and social health and well-being. Moreover, while certain aspects of living in a city, such as access to health care, can improve the lives of many, other factors can have detrimental effects and can lead to inequalities along racial and socioeconomic lines.
Urban Health Issues: Exploring the Impacts of Big-City Living examines 23 key issues related to urban health, exploring their causes and consequences in depth and highlighting what cities and individuals can do to safeguard the well-being of urban residents. It also draws comparisons between cities in the United States and the industrialized world and those in poor and developing nations, providing important global insights. The material is brought to life by fascinating city case studies and illuminating interviews with experts working in a variety of fields.

They invite themselves to take care of our health troubles, to cure our disease, to fight against the effects of aging, to prevent health symptoms, to be better at work, and to improve our well-being. Perhaps you have already tried reflexology, auriculotherapy, fasciatherapy, chiropractic, shiatsu? How to understand it? 1. Inventory2. Avoiding amalgams (such as abuse of weakness, illegal exercises, usurpations of title, misinformation, loss of chance...)3. Definition of NPIs4. Towards the integration of NPIs into individual health pathways Chapter 2- Reasons for the Success of NPIsNothing seems to have stopped the development of NPIs for the past 10 years around the world. Their success is such that not a day goes by without the publication of a study in a scientific journal, an article in the press, and hundreds of posts on social media networks. Not a week goes by without a television report or a special feature in a magazine. Not a month goes by without a congress or a specialized fair. This chapter explains the reasons for this success. 1. Epigenetics2. Behavioral roots3. The importance of quality of life4. Keys to prevent and care for chronic diseases5. A bulwark against comorbidities6. The myth of the rationale human7. The digital and technological revolution8. Direct and indirect cost savings9. Early screening and diagnosis10. Collateral damage from chemistry and biotechnology11. The progress of intervention research Chapter 3- Mechanisms at Play in NPIsIn a Western world, which has made rationality one of its cardinal virtues, man seeks at all costs an explanation - and if possible the simplest explanation - for his state of health, and in the most personal way - attempts to improve it.NPIs are no exception. Some lean for biological effects, others for psychological effects, others for systemic effects. Critics reduce them at best to placebo effects or evaluative biases, at worst to manipulations of ugly guru or greedy traders. What are the real mechanisms? This chapter provides an overview of the main ones. 1. The natural course of the disease2. Biological mechanisms3. Neurological mechanisms4. Psychological processes5. The placebo effect6. The nursing effect7. Cumulative effects8. Methodological errors9. As long as it works Chapter 4 -The Benefits of NPIs "It makes me feel good," summarizes the most frequently heard opinion on NPIs. Is this sufficient justification to use them without moderation? Does satisfaction prove that non-pharmacological treatment or preventive action is effective? The answer is no; better well-being is necessary but not enough.Trusting a paid professional or interested manufacturer is little better, due to an obvious conflict of interest. For the past 20 years, rigorous studies have been carried out to provide evidence of the benefits of NPIs on health indicators -- not only benefits, but also risks, because any health solution carries risks. 1. Research results on NPIs2. Assessment by category of NPIs Chapter 5 - The Dangers of NPIs Who can say with certainty that "natural" medicine is safe for health? How can you b

Описание: In 1895, after enduring two previous cholera epidemics and facing horrific hygienic conditions and the fear of another epidemic, officials in the Argentine province of Tucumán described their home as the “Poisoned Eden,” a play on its official title, “Garden of the Republic.” Cholera elicited fear and panic in the nineteenth century, and although the disease never had the demographic impact of tuberculosis, malaria, or influenza, cholera was a source of consternation that often illuminated dormant social problems.
In Poisoned Eden Carlos S. Dimas analyzes the social, political, and cultural effects of three epidemics, in 1868, 1886, and 1895, that shook the northwestern province of Tucumán to understand the role of public health in building the Argentine state in the late nineteenth century. Through a reading of medical and ethnographic material, Dimas shows that cholera became intertwined in all areas of the social fabric and that Tucumanos of all classes created public health services that expanded the state’s presence in the interior. In each outbreak, provincial powers contended with how to ensure the province’s autonomy while simultaneously meeting the needs of the state to eradicate cholera. Centering disease, Poisoned Eden demonstrates how public health and debates on cholera’s contagion became a central concern of the nineteenth-century Latin American state and promoted national cohesion.

Описание: Examines the complexity and the humanity of the opioid epidemic America’s opioid epidemic continues to ravage families and communities, despite intense media coverage, federal legislation, criminal prosecutions, and harm reduction efforts to prevent overdose deaths. More than 450,000 Americans have died from opioid overdoses since the late 1990s. In Opioid Reckoning, Amy C. Sullivan explores the complexity of the crisis through firsthand accounts of people grappling with the reverberating effects of stigma, treatment, and recovery. Nearly everyone in the United States has been touched in some way by the opioid epidemic, including the author and her family. Sullivan uses her own story as a launching point to learn how the opioid epidemic challenged longstanding recovery protocols in Minnesota, a state internationally recognized for pioneering addiction treatment. By centering the voices of many people who have experienced opioid use, treatment, recovery, and loss, Sullivan exposes the devastating effects of a one-size-fits-all approach toward treatment of opioid dependency. Taking a clear-eyed, nonjudgmental perspective of every aspect of these issues-drug use, parenting, harm reduction, medication, abstinence, and stigma-Opioid Reckoning questions current treatment models, healthcare inequities, and the criminal justice system. Sullivan also imagines a future where anyone suffering an opioid-use disorder has access to the individualized care, without judgment, available to those with other health problems. Opioid Reckoning presents a captivating look at how the state that invented “rehab” addresses the challenges of the opioid epidemic and its overdose deaths while also taking readers into the intimate lives of families, medical and social work professionals, grassroots activists, and many others impacted by the crisis who contribute their insights and potential solutions. In sharing these stories and chronicling their lessons, Sullivan offers a path forward that cultivates empathy, love, and hope for anyone affected by chaotic drug use and its harms.

Описание: Based on extensive field research in the Manianga region of the Lower Congo, Health in a Fragile State is an anthropological account of public health and health care after the collapse of the Congolese state in the 1980s and 1990s. This work brings into focus John M. Janzen's earlier books on African health and healing, revealing the collaborative effort by local, national, and international agencies to create viable alternative institutions to those that represented the centralized state. This book documents and analyzes the realignment of existing institutions and the creation of new ones that shape health and healing. Janzen explores the manner in which power and information, including science, are legitimized in the preservation and improvement of health. Institutional validity and knowledge empower citizens and health practitioners to gain the upper hand over the region's principal diseases, including malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, and HIV/AIDS.
