Описание: How does a combat veteran transform the wounds of war into a life of transcendence? By journeying 2,700 miles across America on foot and embarking on a life of spiritual practice. After serving in an Army scout/sniper platoon in Mosul, Iraq, Tom Voss carried within him the invisible wounds of war. But wasnt panic attacks that kept him awake at night, and it wasnt PTSD that urged him toward suicide. It was something deeper, something fundamental to his very being that had sustained a lasting injury. As he tried to reintegrate into regular society, Tom bore the heavy pain of moral injury --a wound to the soul caused by doing or seeing things that go against ones deepest-held moral beliefs. He felt that during the chaos of war, he might have done things that could never be forgiven.

Desperate for relief from the pain and guilt that haunted him, Tom embarked on a 2,700-mile journey across America, walking with a fellow combat veteran, from Milwaukee, WI, to the Pacific Ocean. As they cross the country, the two men meet brothers and sisters in arms whose injuries mirror their own. They also meet Native American healers who chant away the pain and meditation teachers who breathe until the wounds begin to unravel. But moral injury isnt so easily healed--not even after months in the mountains and desert. As he crosses the finish line in California, Tom realizes hes at the beginning of a healing process thats sure to last a lifetime.

In the months following the walk, Tom takes his first meditation workshop. Its there that hes introduced to a sacred breathing technique taught by an Indian mystic. Over the course of just a few days, this secret technique shatters his understanding of war, himself, and the past. It helps him release the ghosts of the dead. It allows him to forgive himself and forgive God. Through simple, specific breathing patterns, Tom is led from utter despair to undeniable hope. It is this newfound sense of hope that leads him back across the country, this time helping other veterans heal from their own moral injuries. Tom next journeys to India to meet with the guru who developed this sacred technique. It is there, in an ashram surrounded by mystics and devotees, that Tom discovers what deep, lasting healing might mean for him, and for all who seek relief from trauma and moral injury.

Where War Ends will give veterans, survivors, and spiritual seekers hope in the face of unspeakable trauma.
