Es geh rt mittlerweile zum einigerma en gesicherten Wissensbestand der Soziologie der europ ischen Integration, dass im durch eine spezifische institutionelle Architektur gepr gten Entscheidungsgef ge der Europ ischen Union gesellschaftliche Konflikte wie Verteilungs-, Interessen- und Wertkonflikte weitgehend entpolitisiert werden. An die Stelle von "Politik" treten dadurch vermehrt "technokratische L sungen" und "sachbezogene Verwaltung", diese beiden werden wiederum permanent von "politischer Rhetorik" berlagert. Gegenw rtig ist in der Europaso-zio-logie immer deutlicher die Ansicht zu finden, dass gerade der Analyse dieser "politischen" oder "europapolitischen Rhetoriken" verst rkt Aufmerksamkeit zu widmen w re, es - so Maurizio Bach - notwendig sei, "die Selbstbeschreibungen des herrschenden europ ischen Systems und deren Mythen sowie Illusionen zum Gegenstand soziologischer Forschung zu erheben". ​In dieser Arbeit wird eng an diese Forschung angekn pft.
