Описание: Excerpt from An Analysis of the Population of the City of Boston, as Shown in the State Census of May, 1885 Sir: I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your communication of the 5th, in which you request that I put you in possession of such facts as I may have, and which are of general interest, bearing upon the Census of Boston as shown in the recent enumeration. In response to this request, I respectfully submit the follow ing statement of facts, with accompanying analyses relative to the movement of population in the city of Boston. By the State Census of 1885, the population of Boston was of which number were males, and were females, or males, and females, to each 100 in the population. By law, this o ce is charged with the duty of taking and reporting the decennial censuses of the Commonwealth, and it is responsible to the Government and to the people that such cen suses shall be substantially correct, and it is a pleasure always, when the accuracy of the enumeration is questioned, to give those interested the fullest explanation possible regarding the enumeration, and so it is now to furnish you and the people of Boston with such a complete statement that all may have the same opportunity I have to judge of the accuracy of the recent enumeration.
