Описание: Excerpt from The Ophthalmic Record, Vol. 7: October, 1898 It is evident that such cases must necessarily be classed with those of excessive myopia, owing to their inseparable resemblance, and for the latter as well as the former ones, surgery alone affords relief. It is equally certain that in these exceptional ones the results of surgical treatment will be more favorable. It would appear, however, that in this country there exists a marked scarcity of number, so far as these cases of excessive myopia are con cerned, and which must occasionally include just such cases as the present one, for which surgical interference, having for its purpose the removal of the lens, is indicated. This method has, as we know, been practiced on such a large and successful scale in Europe. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. G. E., aged 19, came to my office December 1, with a hi tory of having fallen fifteen days before out of a lumber wagon, strik ing the frozen ground on the right side of his head, and of having been dragged by his team for several rods, and subsequently uncon scious for two hours. The evening of the same dav he noticed that he could not see with his left eye, and that for several succeeding days the sight was growing worse. Having become alarmed at the persistent condition, he was brought to me for consultation. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Описание: Excerpt from The Ophthalmic Record, Vol. 12: A Monthly Review of the Progress of Ophthalmology; June, 1903 Burnett was the first to call attention to the peculiar and remark able appearance of the conjunctivae of the negro in this disease and so complete is his description that I cannot do better than to quote it verbatim: This consists in a brownish discoloration of the con junctiyal tissue, most intense at the scleral base of the mass, and gradually fading away toward the equator of the ball. This discolor ation. Which is undoubtedly situated in the conjunctival tissue itself, as well as in the epithelial layer, is not regular in its distribution but appears to consist of a collection of small deposits of brown pigment. These deposits are sometimes collected in rather large masses, particu larly near the base of the elevation, but towards the equator they appear as small, brownish Specks in the dull and succulent conjunctiva. In some instances this brownish discoloration extends but 3 mm. From the circum - corneal elevation, while in others it reaches almost to the canthus. It does not usually extend so far towards the equator of the globe in either superior or inferior direction. In one case I have seen the whole of the conjunctiva visible through the palpebral opening present this dirty, light-brown appearance in striking contrast to the brilliant, white aspect which the sclera usually presents in this race. In every case that I have seen in the negro I observed this condition. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
