When, several years ago, I became convinced of this, I began the fascinating pursuit of making these Integrated Cantatas, the possibility for which is infinite.

Obviously, the initial requisite is textual coherence. Given a subject, such as Humility, Christ the Good Shepherd, Our Hearts as Gods Dwelling Place, Gods Bounty to Man, etc., it is necessary first to pick out all the numbers in all the Cantatas the text of which has a reasonable relation to the subject, and from them then put together those which are the most beauti ful, which will properly go together musically, and which require the desired soloists and instruments. There being no such Bach Concordance in existence, even in German, I set about mak ing one; and here it is.

Perhaps I can best explain what it is by telling brieﬂy the method which I pursued in making it.
