Possessed of great energy, business acumen and sagacity, he was fore mo t in initiating new enterprises of many kinds, and was Chairman of Coal, Jute and other Companies, President Of the Montreal Board of Trade, Vice President and (in succession to Lord Strathcona) President of the Bank of Montreal, the leading Bank in Canada.
