John Malkovich appears as some of photography's most famous subjects in 41 recreations of iconic portraits
Hollywood legend John Malkovich may seem like an unlikely choice for an artist's muse, but American photographer Sandro Miller declares him "a photographer's dream." Miller (born 1958) has been finding inspiration in the Academy Award-nominated actor since the two first met in 1999. In their latest collaboration, Miller pays homage to the great photographers of past and present, with Malkovich as his sole model, in their recreations of 41 iconic portraits. The project is a testament to both Miller's skill as a photographer and Malkovich's chameleon-esque acting ability.
With months of research in addition to accurate costumes and makeup application, Miller's recreations are delightfully exact in their lighting and editing, while Malkovich seems to easily inhabit the original subjects no matter who he is meant to portray. He appears as the titular migrant mother in Dorothea Lange's Depression-era portrait, as a bewigged Andy Warhol cast in crimson and as both sisters in Diane Arbus' infamous Identical Twins, Roselle, New Jersey, matching with himself in a wide-collared dress and lace stockings. With tongue planted firmly in cheek, Miller manages to breathe new life into some of the world's most recognizable images in this playful take on the history of photography's intersection with pop culture.

Since the 1960s, artists in Hungary have displayed a penchant for abstraction when it comes to complex social conditions and efforts to enact political change.
The abstracted visual language of Hungarian artists is the focus in the K nstlerhaus exhibition " bstract Hungary" curated by kos Ezer, a painter who in this catalog hastranslated the present-day reality in his home country through the framework of "abstraction." This theme is, in fact, a revival, as the K nstlerhaus has previously presented the group exhibition "Abstract Hungary" in 2017. With a sweeping selection of twenty-four Hungarian artists, including Imre Bak, Tam s Kasz s, D ra Maurer, and Zsolt Tibor, the show was devoted to methods of abstraction of varying dialogical nature. The exhibition represented a broader narrative blueprint of the hotly debated term "abstraction" and showed both established and aspiring artistic positions, some of which were exhibited there in Austria for the first time.
This exhibition catalogue seeks to expand these two eponymous projects, and consolidate the abstracted view of Hungary.

Описание: A deeply affecting work from one of the important and innovative voices in American health and medicine. -- Arianna Huffington In Well, physician Sandro Galea examines what Americans miss when they fixate on healthcare: health. Americans spend more money on health than people anywhere else in the world. And what do they get for it? Statistically, not much. Americans today live shorter, less healthy lives than citizens of other rich countries, and these trends show no signs of letting up. The problem, Sandro Galea argues, is that Americans focus on the wrong things when they think about health. Our national understanding of what constitutes being well is centered on medicine -- the lifestyles we adopt to stay healthy, and the insurance plans and prescriptions we fall back on when we're not. While all these things are important, they've not proven to be the difference between healthy and unhealthy on the large scale. Well is a radical examination of the subtle and not-so-subtle factors that determine who gets to be healthy in America. Galea shows how the country's failing health is a product of American history and character -- and how refocusing on our national health can usher enlightenment across American life and politics.

"O that fine octagonal face of his--the great dark thoughtful eyes--the straight broad nose pointed at its low tip--the wide firm mouth with its full lower lip, curbed by the very thin bow of the upper--the very square strong jaw--the expression insolent because modest, imperious because shy, --but a face which could smile. And O the robust and generous young form, noble and opulent in contour--the ardent force restrained of him. To me, from the beginning, he was something apart, an individual whom one must either abhor, or adore--nothing else--and, as I saw him close for the first time, staring at him quite unreservedly, I knew what my feelings were."
Here, presented for the first time in paperback format, is Amico di Sandro, the unfinished novel by Frederick Rolfe, a.k.a. Baron Corvo, dealing with the rambunctious life of Sandro Botticelli.
An eccentric tale of art and Renaissance times for the connoisseur.

In The Politics of Operations Sandro Mezzadra and Brett Neilson investigate how capital reshapes its relation with politics through operations that enable the extraction and exploitation of mineral resources, labor, data, and cultures. They show how capital—which they theorize as a direct political actor—operates through the logistical organization of relations between people, property, and objects as well as through the penetration of financialization into all realms of economic life. Mezzadra and Neilson present a capacious analysis of a wide range of issues, from racial capitalism, the convergence of neoliberalism and nationalism, and Marx's concept of aggregate capital to the financial crisis of 2008 and how colonialism, empire, and globalization have shaped the modern state since World War II. In so doing, they illustrate the distinctive rationality and logics of contemporary capitalism while calling for a politics based on collective institutions that exist outside the state.
