Описание: In Sperone Speroni and the Debate over Sophistry in the Italian Renaissance Teodoro Katinis mines a number of little or unstudied primary sources and offers the first book on the rebirth of ancient sophists in the Italian literature of the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, from Leonardo Bruni to Jacopo Mazzoni, with a focus on the Italian writer and philosopher Sperone Speroni (1500-1588). Katinis convincingly argues that Speroni is a unique case of an early modern thinker who explicitly rejected Plato’s demonization and defended the public role of the sophistic rhetoric, which enhanced the debate over the sophistic arts and scepticism in a variety of fields and anticipated some of the most revolutionary modern thoughts.

The American Revolution Reborn parts company with the Revolution of our popular imagination and diverges from the work done by historians of the era from the past half-century. In the first section, "Civil Wars," contributors rethink the heroic terms of Revolutionary-era allegiance and refute the idea of patriotic consensus. In the following section, "Wider Horizons," essayists destabilize the historiographical inevitability of America as a nation. The studies gathered in the third section, "New Directions," present new possibilities for scholarship on the American Revolution. And the last section, titled "Legacies," collects essays that deal with the long afterlife of the Revolution and its effects on immigration, geography, and international politics. With an introduction by Spero and a conclusion by Zuckerman, this volume heralds a substantial and revelatory rebirth in the study of the American Revolution.

influential figures in American art today, she has always been involved in feminist and peace movements, and has elaborated a language of painting that is intimately tied to social and anthropological realities. This volume focuses on the artist's social commitments, as documented in photographs and an interview, and also includes recent works recording her path through art and politics. Thanks to important solo shows in public museums and at important venues such as the 2007 Venice Biennale curated by Robert Storr, which featured her work "Maypole: Take No Prisoners," and solo exhibitions in Spain, over the past few years Spero has conquered the European art scene.
Nancy Spero is an American-Jewish artist who works in many media, both traditional and experimental. Spero was born in Cleveland, Ohio in 1926. After attending the University of Colorado at Boulder from 1944-1945, she received her BA from the Art Institute of Chicago in 1949. Her first solo exhibit was in Paris in 1962.
