Описание: Daughter and Sonny are two best friends just trying to get through fourth year at high school. But when their favourite teacher leaves unexpectedly, and no one will say why, the boys decide to start their own investigation. As they dig deeper into the staff at Battlefield High, they discover a dark secret which one person will kill to protect...
Twenty-five years ago my doctors had no cure for my cancer. So I went on a quest to find my own treatment. This is my story...
In 1991, Glenn Sabin was a 28-year-old newlywed diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)-a disease doctors called "uniformly fatal." Treatments could buy him some time and eventually ease his discomfort, but there was no conventional cure. Glenn's prognosis was clear: he was going to die.
Although Glenn and his wife, Linda, continued to consult with doctors, cancer specialists and top oncologists, Glenn made a monumental decision: he would become his own health advocate. While he continued to "watch and wait," Glenn would figure out how to stay alive.
No one could predict when a large-scale clinical trial would discover a cure for CLL, so Glenn began his own, medically monitored and carefully researched lifestyle changes. He would conduct his own, single patient clinical trial.
He would become an "n of 1."
Today, Glenn is not only alive, but a 2012 biopsy at Harvard confirmed that his bone marrow contains no leukemic cells. His case is now part of the medical literature.
In n of 1, author Glenn Sabin takes readers along his remarkable journey with 'incurable' cancer, where he discovers:
No two cancers are exactly alike. Our bodies, minds and diseases are unique, and need to be treated as such.
Knowledge and empowerment are your best allies against a life-limiting diagnosis.
Lifestyle changes are a powerful way to help prevent, manage and reduce the recurrence of disease--and to improve your quality of life.
A strong support system and a clear mind may significantly improve your health.
The modelling of the process of Neolithization - one of the basic tasks of the FEPRE project - requires the building of a complete data base, including radio carbon dates and inventory of FTN sites: both those excavated as well as those recorded in the course of surface surveys. In view of the fact that in the Neolithization of Europe the axis running from the Balkans to the Carpathians is of essential importance the editors have decided to compile the inventory of FTN sites along this axis and subdividedinto: I - Bulgaria, II - Romania, III - Eastern Hungary, IV - Eastern Slovakia, V - South-Eastern Poland. The result is a five-volume catalogue of FTN sites: Vol. I - Bulgaria - sites of the Monochrome and the Early Painted Pottery Phase (Karanovo I type); Vol. II - Romania (Transylvania and Banat) - sites of the Early Phase (with white-painted pottery); Vol. III - Eastern Hungary (Tisza basin) - sites of the K r s-Star evo Cul ture; Vol. IV - Eastern Slovakia - sites of the Early Phase of the Eastern Linear Pottery Culture; Vol. V - South-Eastern Poland - LBK sites. The database and analysis of archaeological records provide the most up-to-date groundwork for the construction of the model on Neolithization of Central Europe within the frame work of the FEPRE project.

Описание: Marie Duvalis a celebration of the art and times of Marie Duval (active 1869-1885) - a unique, pioneering and highly entertaining visual journalist, cartoonist and illustrator whose work appeared in serial magazines and books at a time when the identity of the artist, in Victorian England, was in radical flux. Both a stage actress as well as an artist, Duval was uniquely placed to take advantage of the first appearance of a mass leisure culture by contributing to the weekly magazines that combined current affairs and theatrics with a focus on urban life. Duval would have been excluded from the places in which the penny papers were conceived by male journalists - public house back rooms, for example - but the forging of new professions allowed her to make her way. The book provides an entertaining visual account of the work of Duval as she struggled and succeeded in creating a new urban visual culture. It will look in turn at key aspects of Victorian mass leisure industry, such as tourism, day-tripping, fashion, the theatre, art and the 'season.' Placing Duval in the visual context of the emerging profession of visual journalism, this illustrated book offers an enticing glimpse of the exciting, strange and world-changing media environment of London in the last part of the nineteenth century.
