Several methods were used to independently estimate the non-group quarters population of each municipality and the county balance. In each method. A current estimate of the group quarters population is added to the municipality or county balance estimate. Resulting in a total population estimate that is then independently controlled to the county estimate for 1987. The municipal population estimate is based on an average of three or four methods. Depending upon the availability of valid auto and truck registration data. Each method uses the non-group quarters population from the 1980 Federal Census as a base.
