Grainger County was created in 1796 from Hawkins & Knox Counties, TN. Wills are wonderful source for the researcher due to many and variety of family members being mentioned. Many times marriages of various family members can be discovered within a will.

Greene County was originally Tennessee County, having been formed in 1783. Prior to its formation, it was part of North Carolina. It is the parent county to: Blount, Cocke, Jefferson, & Sevier As will be seen, it is a veritable gold mine of genealogical information for persons interested in Greene County and surrounding East Tennessee counties. These records cover the time frame of 1783-1795. In the minutes, one will find local office holders being appointed and/or qualified, including clerks of courts, registers of deeds, sheriffs, coroners, etc. The court controlled the levying and expenditure of local taxes, matters dealing with public buildings, roads, bridges, etc. were handled by this court and it also selected and summoned juries. Among the other responsibilities of the court found in its minutes were licenses granted to operaters of taverns, as well as deeds and bills of sale being acknowledged by the grantors. the court oversaw a wide range of matters involving estates, including probate of wills, settlements of estates, and appraisements as well as matters dealing with bastardy, and many other valuable bits of information.
"The earliest reference to a permanent location in Blount County is the gathering of troops at Houston's Station in 1786.... In July 1795, the General Assembly of the Territory South of the Ohio River erected a new county from Knox to be called Blount in honor of Governor William Blount." Bedford County was formed in 1807 out of Rutherford County. And in turn, the lower half of Bedford County was cut off to form Lincoln County in 1809. These are the oldest surviving Minutes of the County Court (1848-1860), all minutes prior to this date were destroyed in the Courthouse fire of 1863.

Wilson County is a pivotal county in the early settlement of Tennessee and in the subsequent migration of people westward. It is surrounded by the counties of: Cannon, DeKalb, Rutherford, Smith and Sumner. Trust deeds are really mortgages. People are putting up their property both real and personal, as collateral for loans. This said, there are some deed transactions in these records. These records are tremendously important because they are the records dealing with the buying and selling of slaves in Wilson County. By using census records, as well as other records, including these trust deed books, it should be possible for many people to trace their ancestry back to the slave. To the authors knowledge these Trust Deed Books begin with "EE", because every effort was made and no earlier books were found in the County Court House.
