Описание: M xico 1900-1950 offers an unprecedented survey of Mexican art from the turn of the century through the Revolution (1910-20) and until the early 1950s. It examines key works across different mediums by major Mexican artists, including Diego Rivera, Frida Kahlo, and Jos Clemente Orozco, as well as by lesser-known figures and women artists. The catalogue showcases Mexican modern art as its own distinct avant-garde, fundamentally different from that of Europe. Although many Mexican artists lived and practiced in Paris during the early decades of the 20th century, they eventually returned home and drew extensively from themes surrounding nationhood and Mexicos rich, mythical past, poignantly articulating their countrys revolutionary ideals, traditions, and aspirations. Over 250 illustrations foreground this wholly original and sweeping study of Mexico as a hotbed for modernism and artistic achievement.

Описание: From Digital to Analog delves into the origins of digitization and its effects on contemporary culture. The book challenges the «common sense» assertion that digitization is just another step in the evolution of the culture of the editorial, film and recorded music industries and their enforcement of copyright laws. Digital technologies in contemporary culture have paradoxically undermined and, at the same time, strengthened such practices, provoking an unprecedented quarrel over the possession of, and access to, cultural products. Agust?n Berti uses the release of Agrippa (A Book of the Dead) in 1992 to study this paradox. The importance of Agrippa for digital culture studies is proven through the discussion of the frequently understated importance of the materiality of digital culture. The book develops a critique of digital technology and its alleged neutrality and transparency. Ultimately, it illustrates how Agrippa anticipated a number of contemporary phenomena such as piracy, leaks, remixes, memes, and more, forcing us to rethink the concept of digital content itself and thus the way in which culture is produced, received and preserved today. From Digital to Analog is ideal reading for a graduate student readership, especially Master candidates in the fields of Literature, Arts, Digital Humanities, Digital Culture and New Media Studies.

The subject of "mestizaje"--the in-between-ness of living between two cultures, and belonging at once to both and to neither of the two--is a crucial theme in U.S. Hispanic reflection today, theological as well as not. This book is, as its title says, a basic introduction to the thought of Saint Augustine. But it takes into account the dual roots of Augustine himself, his African mother on the one hand, and his Roman father and Greco-Roman education on the other. These two were at tension throughout his life and help us understand much of the drama leading to his conversion as well as his theology.
