Описание: Infrared thermography is a measurement technique that enables to obtain non intrusive measurements of surface temperatures. One of the interesting features of this technique is its ability to measure a full two dimensional map of the surface temperature and for this reason it has been widely used as a flow visualization technique. Since the temperature measurements can be extremely accurate it is possible, by using a heat flux sensor, also to measure convective heat transfer coefficient distributions on a surface making the technique de facto quantitative. This book, starting from the basic theory of infrared thermography and heat flux sensor guides, both the experienced researcher and the young student, in the correct application of this powerful technique to various practical problems. A significant number of examples and applications are also examined in detail.

Novel and rapid methods of detection can be created with devices operation in these spectral ranges allowing scanning for weapons, detecting hidden explosives (including plastic landmines), controlling the quality of food and a host of other exciting applications.  This book focuses on mathematical and physical aspects of the field, on unifying these two spectral domains (THz and MIR) with regard to common sources, detectors, materials and applications, and on key interdisciplinary topics. The main THz and MIR source is the quantum cascade laser (QCL). Thus significant attention is paid to the challenge of turning this advanced technology into affordable commercial devices so as to exploit its enormous potential. However other alternatives to THz QCLs are also presented, e.g.  sub-terahertz imaging from avalanching GaAs bipolar transistors, Josephson junctions as THz sources, semiconductor materials for pulsed THz sources,  superconducting THz electronics with Josephson vortices.  In summary this book delivers a global picture of the state of the art in TERA-MIR generation, detection and applications.

Описание: The book deals with lock-in thermography as a special variant of the well known IR thermography for all applications where the heat of the sample can be pulsed. Compared to steady-state thermography, the lock-in mode enables a much improved signal/noise ratio (up to 1000x) by signal averaging, a far better lateral resolution, and it may provide inherent emissivity correction. Thus, it replaces thermal failure analysis previously carried out by using conventional IR microscopy, liquid crystal imaging, or fluorescent microthermal imaging. Various experimental approaches to lock-in thermography are reviewed with special emphasis on the systems developed by the authors themselves. Thus, the book provides a useful introduction to this technique and a helpful guide for scientists and engineers working in electronic device failure analysis. It concludes with a detailed theoretical treatment of the propagation of thermal waves, which is presented as a basis for various applications, e.g., integrated circuits, MOS structures, solar cells and solar modules.
