Описание:

"What's my DNA?" Virgil Abloh asks to an overflowing auditorium at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. Abloh goes on to provide his audience with a "cheat code"--advice he wishes he had received as a student. He then unpacks a series of "shortcuts" for cultivating a "personal design language." Trained as an architect and engineer, Abloh has translated the tools and techniques of his student days into the world of fashion, product design, and music. His label, Off-White, works in seeming contradictions, marrying streetwear with couture, collaborating with brands like Nike, Ikea, and the Red Cross; musicians like Lil Uzi Vert and Rihanna; and "mentors" like Rem Koolhaas. Impervious to hurdles ("They literally don't exist."), Abloh takes us behind the scenes of his design process, sharing the essentials of editing, problem-solving, and storytelling. He paints a picture of his DNA, and then flips the question: What's your DNA?

The Incidents is a series of publications based on events that occured at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design between 1936 and tomorrow.

Описание: A lecture by the originator of object-oriented philosophy, delivered on the occasion of the Sculpture after Sculpture exhibition at Moderna Museet, Stockholm.

Can objects be traumatized? How does the commercial value of an art object relate to its aesthetic qualities? How do objects interact? These are some of the questions addressed by Graham Harman, the originator of object-oriented philosophy and a central figure of the Speculative Realism school of thought in contemporary philosophy. This book includes Graham Harman's lecture "What Is an Object?" delivered at Moderna Museet in Stockholm, on the occasion of the exhibition "Sculpture after Sculpture," with Jeff Koons, Charles Ray, and Katharina Fritsch--artists, who have expanded the notion of the object in art and society at large.

In his lecture, Harman gives a thorough exposition of the object from an ontological standpoint and puts forward a concept of the object that goes beyond reductionist orientations. He declares a philosophical approach bringing philosophy and the arts closely together, where objects are impenetrable to direct knowledge and paraphrase and instead must be approached obliquely and indirectly. The publication also includes a symposium in which thirteen questions to Graham Harman--among and in relation to the thirteen sculptures of the show--that were posed about the implications of object oriented philosophy for art, business administration, and philosophy.

Описание: A city girl spends the summer in the South and learns the secrets of her estranged extended family.

Catarina has never met her strict Jewish grandmother. But now, with an opportunity to spend three weeks in Baton Rouge and away from her best-friends-turned-bullies, Cat packs her bags and leaves New York City to get to know the woman who has always been a mystery. Down South, she begins working at her grandmother's luxury department store with her rebellious cousin Lexie. Nothing seems to be going right and nobody talks about the past. But just when Cat is starting to think that this whole trip may have been a huge mistake, she stumbles onto a secret from a time her grandmother refuses to speak of. Suddenly Cat's summer, and everything she thought she knew, has changed.

Award-winning author Julie Sternberg tells a tender family story full of humor, heart, and heartbreak that reveals the power of forgiveness and proves it's never too late to start over.

Описание:

This publication documents the 2016 exhibition "One, No One and One Hundred Thousand," which took place at Kunsthalle Wien, Karlsplatz. Curated by Luca Lo Pinto, the show took its inspiration from Oulipo, a literary strategy whose objective was to propose new "structures" for writing that were mathematical in nature. Using A Thousand Billion Poems, a 1961 book by Raymond Queneau, one of Oulipo's founders, as a manifesto for the exhibition, nine artists were invited to create new works in a display that would change depending on the wishes of the visitor.

Investigating and reformulating the conventional structure and limitations of exhibition making, "One, No One and One Hundred Thousand" challenged curatorial authorship and explored potentiality. The main actor of the exhibition was the viewer who was not a consumer but a coproducer, alongside the artists and the curator. This publication, which comprises photographs, dates, time stamps, and the names of the visitors, is a record of the 178 unique exhibitions realized.

From a History of Exhibitions Towards a Future of Exhibition-Making: China and Southeast Asia

Описание: Rethinking exhibition practices and histories in China and Southeast Asia.

This book is the result of various ongoing assembly platforms linked together under the same name, all organized and initiated by Biljana Ciric and hosted by St Paul St Gallery AUT (2013), Rockbund Art Museum (2018) and Guangdong Times Museum (2019). In the texts presented, writers, curators, and art practitioners in the region revisit the importance of exhibitions as a form and medium presented at assemblies.

The contributors explore how exhibitions can be read and understood across different social and cultural contexts, highlighting differences within the region and inviting new approaches and methodologies that point to possibilities for comparative forms of research. The book draws further awareness to the specificity and diversity of practices found within Asia--and thereby looks to contribute decisively to a (re)mapping of exhibition practices and histories using the different perspectives and local contexts found in this region.
