The face should be washed, winter and summer, in water from which the chill has been taken ofl, and dried carefully - by pressing gently on it, not by rubbing - with a fine linen towel. This latter point is one on which Spanish women bestow a great deal of care, using towels only of the finest texture, which are generally also elaborate ly embroidered and fringed. A little cold cream should at night be applied with the finger and allowed to remain until morning, when it is to be gently removed with a fine cloth before washing the face. A few drops of perfumed alcohol, in the proportion of five drops of alcohol to half a tumbler of water, should be added to the water used to wash the face after the cold-cream has been removed.
